Although we’re enduring difficult times due to the COVID-19 pandemic, getting out to see Christmas lights in 2020 is sure to bring a sense of normality, maybe even joy. There are plenty of places in the Birmingham area to view Christmas light displays from the safety of your car or from wherever you’re comfortable, so we’ve compiled a few of our favorites below.

Glow Wild: An Animal Lantern Celebration at the Birmingham Zoo

From now until January 18th comes “Glow Wild: An Animal Lantern Celebration at the Birmingham Zoo!” Head to the zoo to see hundreds of lantern creatures many all sorts of animal shapes and sizes. This is a great event to see for the family! It’s open every night from 5pm-9pm. The zoo is abiding by social distancing practices and their ticketing is limited. Wacky Tacky Light Tour

The Wacky Tacky Light Tour is “distanced, masked, and ready to roll!” It is a guided bus tour to show some of Birmingham’s best of the best (and worst of the worst) holiday lights. Christmas Lights in Pinson, AL

Bama Lights

This normally interactive Christmas display has gone drive-through only for 2020, but its majesty can be fully observed and enjoyed from your Nissan Rogue SUV. Tune your radio to 88.1 to hear the musical accompaniment and drop by anytime between 5:00 and 9:00 PM through Christmas. Viewing the lights is free, but you’re welcome to donate to Magic Moments and get a candy cane from one of the hosts.

Christmas Lights in Calera, AL

Calera’s Christmas Wonderland

With over 30,000 lights setting the scene, Calera’s Christmas Wonderland is a splendid, walk-through Christmas Lights display, and more. This is a COVID-safe attraction with plenty of accessible sanitizer stations present, and you can meet Mr. & Mrs. Claus! While you can’t sit on Santa’s lap (thanks, COVID-19) you can pose for a photo with him in the sleigh and get a free candy cane. The Blackmon Family’s Christmas Fantasyland

For almost 30 years, the Blackmon family have been displaying their holiday lights, and you can view them from the safety of your car. There are several attractions to see, including a rotating carousel and Ferris wheel, Elsa’s castle, the North Pole and more!
